Welcome to the Neighborhood!
So excited you’ll be coming to town and will see part of the city we call home.
Whether it’s your first time here or you want to stop in to some of our favorites, below are some suggestions.
We hope you enjoy your time in the ‘Burgh!
The Greatest Hits
First time here? These staples are pretty great.
Mt. Washington Incline - one of the best views of the city @ the top
Heinz History Center - recently named #1 history museum in the country
Carnegie Art & History Museum - huge, overwhelming in the best ways
Andy Warhol Museum - as individual as the man himself - cool spot
Pamela’s P&G Diner - solid semi-famous breakfast
Primanti Brother’s - PGH institution. We would not say it’s the greatest or our favorite meal in town but get some fries and slaw on a sandwich if you haven’t.
Phipp’s Conservatory - should been leaning into some pretty fall colors
The Strip District - lots of stops in this area, check out “The Terminal” if exploring this area
Lawrenceville’s Butler Street – trendy, new(er), and eclectic area - a lot to see
Prantl’s Bakery- nationally known for their burnt almond torte
University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University - Kelly (willingly or not) has spent most of her time the past three years on both campuses.
Our Favorites
-
Lot 17
If you are staying at our Hyatt House hotel block and are looking for where to go to dinner on Friday, it’s Lot 17.
Every meal we’ve had here has been great. Restaurant is a favorite or ours that we keep coming back to.
(Some should beware - it’s a Pitt bar - Go Panthers.)
-
Bakery Square
For those staying at this hotel block, it is surprising how much is right here.
AVP has some of the best pizza in the city, the food hall provides plenty of options, you have your Starbucks, your Panera, and an Anthropologie too.
-
Coffee Tree Roasters
Over on Walnut St in Shadyside, a popular local coffee shop that happens to be the site of our both our first date and where Jeremy proposed.
-
Kelly's Bar & Lounge
Our favorite dive bar. Not just an amazing name. They advertise “good food” but we think it’s incredible.
-
Dad's Dog & Burger
This spot officially opened in March/April of this year and it has already been named “One of the greatest burgers I’ve ever had” by Jeremy. We love a perfectly cooked onion ring or breakfast sandwich here too.
-
White Whale Books
Need a good read for the trip? Pop in to the cute bookstore that opened just six blocks from our apartment. Great spot, great coffee.
-
Wildcard
One of our favorite local shops. Cards, candles, puzzles, and more. A lot to love here.
Similar to a spot we also love, Kards Unlimited over on Walnut St.
-
Treat Ice Cream & Liege
One of the greatest ice cream spots in town. Owner is so incredibly nice.
Highly recommend the “Pittsburgh Pride” with a fresh warm waffle.
-
The Nook
Newer breakfast spot with some seriously amazing food. Everything we’ve had has been so delicious. Small space so if you don’t want to wait, get here early!
-
Geppetto Cafe - Bloomfield
If we were to say which breakfast spot we stop in to most - it’d be Geppetto Cafe in Bloomfield. Amazing omelettes, savory french toast, we have not had a bad plate of food here.
-
Kelly O's
A breakfast institution. If you want a PGH diner experience, this is our favorite. (Specifically the one out in Wexford but the one in the Strip District is pretty solid too).
-
Tocayo - Shadyside
Tacos, Burritos, Margaritas, and Mojitos.
This is one of our favorite elevated Mexican spots in the city. Always delicious, just off Walnut Street in Shadyside.
